Dr Deepak Ravindran very kindly spoke as a clinician at the British Porphyria Association's Autumn Conference and AGM in October 2018 in Reading. He spoke to around 70 porphyria patients and their families about the impact of living with a long-term health condition and a multi-pronged approach to pain management. His talk was engaging, positive and thought-provoking and was very well received by all who attended... we can't wait to hear more from Dr Ravindran in the future. Thank you again for all of the time you dedicated to our members on the day and in preparation for the talk... we are very grateful for the huge impact you had on the overall feel of the day. Had sciatica issues in my back for 18 months before seeing Dr Ravindran who was great in listening to my full experience and treating them.

It has taken 4 years of frustrating misdiagnosis, obstruction, lies, poor direction, training, lack of knowledge and a total unwillingness to step outside the box and investigate the symptoms I complained of. I could go on in this vein for several pages. UNTIL my appointment with Dr Ravindran to day. He listened, he did not pre judge my condition as others had. He conducted his own examination and reached his own diagnosis free from any external input or pressure. He was understanding and allowed me far more time than allocated to let me express my concerns about my previous experiences with supposed specialists in their fields. He fully explained why I had the pain and symptoms that I had and the root cause of them, he also went on to fully explain the limitations of any future confirmatory diagnosis and the very limited treatment available and the uncertainty of any outcome from it. I am very grateful to Dr Ravindran for being so honest, straightforward and more than anything else not questioning my explanations of past experiences with other medical professionals or the delays involved in the convoluted rout it had taken for me to get to see him. As I said to him "I only wish I could have seen you 4 years ago"

I am very pleased to be able to comment on my recent treatment and follow up appointments as I have been truly impressed and helped so much by this doctor. I have fibromyalgia and was in constant debilitating pain which had reached a level I could no longer cope with. At my first appointment he found out about me, what other conditions I have and what I needed to be able to do in order to work and enjoy my time off, in other words live fairly normally with an incurable condition. We talked through options as there was one potential tablet my GP had not tried me on. We also talked about a lidocaine infusion and that was what we agreed on. After the appointment I was copied into a letter for my GP where the results of my appointment were set out. During my treatment I was amazed that Dr Ravindran inserted my canula himself and I promise you I didn't feel a thing. This was very unusual as I normally feel like a pincushion especially when it is in the back of my hand. I have seen Dr R twice since then for checkups and I am currently waiting for my second treatment. He has apologised for any longer waits than usual when he has leave booked, not something I expected but I do appreciate being fully informed. Just one last thing I would like to mention. I was accompanied to the first treatment by a fellow Fibro sufferer who has been receiving this treatment from a different doctor. She was with me when Dr R explained what could or would happen, like the drop in blood pressure during the treatment, and she later told me I was given far more information than she had been the first time. For me it is really important that I am making informed decisions and don't have any surprises and I really feel I can rely on Dr Ravindran to make this happen.

After a disastrous consultation with a consultant and the hospital in Henley on Thames I was recommended to meet with Dr Ravindran. He listened to me, did a thorough examination then recommended the procedure which was carried out several months ago. Immediately after the surgery I was pain free for the first time in several years, he did warn me that the sensation could return (which it did) and we have discussed how this could be managed for the future.
